So I finally decided to replace the cushion on my hanging egg chair, and honestly, I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner! I went with this Waterproof Outdoor Egg Chair Cushion Replacement, and it’s been a total game-changer for my little patio setup.
First off, this thing is super comfy – it’s got this high-density cotton filling that’s actually substantial (weighs about 7 lb) unlike my old flat cushion that basically felt like sitting on cardboard after a few months. The waterproof polyester cover is pretty good quality too. I’ve already had a couple of surprise rain showers, and the water just beaded right off instead of soaking through like my last cushion.
The dimensions are roughly 43.3 x 43.3 x 5.9 inches, which fit my standard hanging egg chair perfectly. It’s kind of amazing how much of a difference the thickness makes – it’s way more supportive than what came with my chair originally, especially for my lower back which tends to get cranky if I sit too long.
I really appreciate the little details, like the invisible zipper (makes it look way more expensive than it is) and those adjustable headrest straps. To be fair, I didn’t even know I needed headrest straps until I had them, and now I’m totally spoiled. The stitching seems pretty solid too – double-stitched around the edges which should help it last longer than my previous cushion that started coming apart at the seams after just one season.
When it arrived, it was vacuum-sealed and flat as a pancake, which freaked me out a bit! But I just followed the instructions and left it in the sun for about 6 days (okay, I got impatient and kept patting and fluffing it up). If you’re in a hurry, you can apparently toss it in the dryer on delicate for 15 minutes, but I wasn’t that desperate.
The cushion has transformed my egg chair into my new favorite reading spot. It’s actually comfier than my living room couch now, which I didn’t expect at all! I’ve started having my morning coffee out there, and even fell asleep in it last weekend (whoops).
One thing to keep in mind – while it’s waterproof, I still bring it in during heavy storms just to be safe. And I do try to fluff it up every now and then to keep its shape, but that’s pretty normal for any cushion.
