I just got my hands on this Stoog rocking chair and honestly, I’m pretty impressed. I’ve been looking for something that could handle our crazy weather here in the Pacific Northwest, and this chair seems to be the real deal.
So I’ve had this chair for about three weeks now, and it’s kind of become my go-to spot for morning coffee. It’s definitely bigger than I expected – like, noticeably oversized compared to the old rocker I had before. The black finish looks really sleek on our patio, and it hasn’t shown any signs of fading yet, even though we’ve had some seriously sunny days lately.
One thing I wasn’t expecting – they actually sell a matching side table separately (I think the ASIN is B0CF25V8QJ or something like that). I’m thinking about getting it because I’m tired of balancing my coffee mug on the armrest, lol.
The all-weather thing isn’t just marketing hype, to be fair. We had a surprise rainstorm last weekend, and I completely forgot to cover it. No damage at all! The material is this High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) which feels surprisingly substantial, not like cheap plastic furniture at all. The stainless steel hardware is a nice touch too – my last outdoor chair started rusting after just one season.
Weight capacity is no joke – my brother-in-law is a pretty big guy (probably around 350 lbs) and he sat in it with no creaking or wobbling. That was a relief since most outdoor furniture feels kind of flimsy for larger folks.
The rocking motion is actually really smooth. Not too fast, not too slow – just right for unwinding after work. It’s comfier than my old couch, which is saying something! The runners are designed pretty well, so you don’t feel like you’re going to tip over.
Maintenance has been super easy so far. My kid spilled some ketchup on it (of course), and it wiped right off with some soap and water. No staining at all! That’s a huge plus since our wooden deck chairs need constant TLC.
The contoured seat is probably my favorite feature. I can sit in this chair for hours without my back hurting, which never happens with normal patio furniture. The seat is wide enough that I can sit cross-legged if I want, and the height is just right for me (I’m 5’7″).
I was a bit worried about assembly when I first opened the box, but it was pretty straightforward. Took maybe 30 minutes total? The instructions weren’t perfect but good enough.
For the specs, if you’re curious: it weighs about 43.6 pounds, dimensions are roughly 34.5″ wide by 43.5″ deep and 45″ high. The seat itself is 28 inches wide with a 17.5-inch height, and the backrest is about 30 inches high. It’s rated for 400 pounds, which seems totally believable based on how sturdy it feels.
One small thing – I wish it came in more colors. The black looks good, but I was originally hoping for something in navy to match our other stuff. Not a big deal though.
Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase. It’s not exactly cheap, but considering I won’t have to replace it every couple of years like my previous chairs, I think it’s worth it. Plus, the 5-year warranty gives me some peace of mind.
