So I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect high chair for ages, and honestly, I think I finally found a winner with this Bugaboo Giraffe wooden chair. It’s not just your average baby high chair – this thing is seriously like 5 different chairs in one! The warm wood with gray accents looks pretty good in our dining area, not too childish or plasticky like a lot of the other options out there.
What really sold me was how it actually grows with your kid. My sister spent a fortune buying new seats every couple years for my niece, but this one transitions from a high chair all the way to an adult seat (it can hold up to 220 pounds – I tested it myself and it felt totally sturdy!). You do need to buy the Newborn Set separately if you want to use it from birth, which was kind of annoying, but I figure it’s still cheaper in the long run.
The adjustments are incredibly easy – like, embarrassingly easy compared to the wrestling match I had with our previous high chair. You can adjust the footrest to 9 different positions and the seat height to 5 positions with just a click. No tools needed, which is a lifesaver when you’re trying to make changes with a squirmy toddler around.
Safety-wise, it’s got this wide tripod base that makes it super stable. My little one is pretty active during meals (to put it mildly), and I haven’t had any scary tipping moments. It’s surprisingly lightweight too – about 11 pounds – so I can easily move it around the kitchen when I need to.
I’m also pretty big on eco-friendly stuff these days, and the Bugaboo uses FSC-certified beechwood, which basically means the wood comes from responsibly managed forests. It’s finished with non-toxic coatings too, which gives me peace of mind since my kid chews on literally everything.
Cleaning is always the make-or-break feature for me with baby products, and this chair doesn’t disappoint. The surfaces wipe down super easily, and if you get the tray (another separate purchase, unfortunately), the insert is dishwasher-safe. Between you and me, anything that’s dishwasher-safe automatically gets bonus points in my book!
The only drawbacks? It’s definitely on the pricier side, and the fact that all the accessories are sold separately feels a bit like a money grab. I wish they at least included the tray with the chair. And while I love the wood finish, I’ve noticed it can show scratches if your little one gets too enthusiastic with utensils.
Overall though, it’s been a fantastic investment for us. It looks way nicer than those plastic monstrosities that scream “baby equipment,” and I love knowing we’ll be using it for years to come. It’s comfier than I expected too – my daughter actually stays seated longer during meals now, which has made dinnertime way less chaotic!
