So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my home office chair to the X-Chair X-Project Task Chair, and honestly, I don’t know why I waited so long!
The fabric on this thing is pretty impressive. They call it Advanced Tensile Recovery (A.T.R.) Fabric, which sounds fancy, but basically it’s this woven nylon that actually responds to how you sit. What I really appreciate is that it’s totally spill-proof—I’ve already tested this accidentally with my morning coffee, and it wiped right off. No stain, no problem!
Setting this chair up for my body type was super easy. I’m kind of tall (6’2″), so I always struggle with chairs, but this one lets me adjust pretty much everything. The backrest height moves up and down to hit my lower back just right, and I can tweak the armrests in like three different ways. The headrest is a game-changer for me—I can actually lean back during those never-ending Zoom calls without getting a crick in my neck.
The seat cushion is way comfier than my old chair. It’s this molded foam that’s firm but not hard, if that makes sense? It’s about 20 inches wide and 19 inches deep, so there’s plenty of room to shift around during the day. I’m not anywhere near the 300-pound weight limit, but the chair feels really solid.
To be fair, one thing I wasn’t expecting was how breathable the fabric would be. My old chair used to make me sweat during longer work sessions, but this one stays pretty cool. The fabric has this sort of soft, giving quality that kind of moves with you instead of fighting against you.
The look of it is pretty sleek too—I got the black one with the aluminum base, and it definitely classes up my home office setup. Putting it together wasn’t bad at all, took me maybe 25 minutes tops, and I’m not exactly handy. The wheels roll super smoothly on my hardwood floors without marking them up, which my landlord would definitely appreciate!
Some other specs worth mentioning: it’s about 25.5 inches wide, 24 inches deep, and you can adjust the height between 47-52 inches. The whole chair weighs about 45 pounds, so it’s substantial but not impossible to move around. One feature I’ve grown to love is this lumbar support thing they call DVL technology—it basically adjusts to your movements without you having to fiddle with it.
My back feels so much better after switching to this chair. I used to get these awful aches after sitting for a few hours, but that’s pretty much gone now. I can actually focus on work instead of how uncomfortable I am, which has made me way more productive. And for something I sit in literally 8+ hours a day, the durability seems worth the investment.
