I’ve been using the Water Buffalo Bondi Backpack Beach Chair for about two months now, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my beach trips. I’m the type who tends to overpack, so having a chair I can just throw on my back has been pretty awesome.
So this thing only weighs like 8.9 pounds, which doesn’t sound super light, but it’s actually not bad at all when it’s distributed across your shoulders with those padded straps. I carried it about half a mile down to my local beach last weekend and barely noticed it. When folded up, it’s roughly 25.6 x 7.9 x 7.9 inches – compact enough to fit in my already-crowded car trunk alongside all our other beach gear.
The reclining feature is what sold me initially. There are three different positions, and I’ve gotta say, the ability to start upright while eating lunch, then kick back for some reading, and finally go almost flat for a little snooze is kind of perfect. The back support is really solid too – I’ve had beach chairs before that killed my lower back after an hour, but this one has that high 29.5-inch backrest that actually supports my neck properly. That makes a huge difference when you’re parked on the sand all day!
I was a bit skeptical about the durability at first (my last chair rusted out after just one summer), but the aluminum frame seems pretty robust so far. It’s handled a few trips to our saltwater beach without showing any signs of corrosion. My partner is, um, not exactly lightweight, and the chair handles his 250-ish pounds without any wobbling or creaking – it’s rated for 300 pounds, so that checks out.
The cup holder is nothing fancy, but it does the job. It’s big enough for my standard water bottle and even held my oversized tumbler pretty securely. To be fair, I did spill once when I plopped down too hard, but that was definitely my fault!
One thing I really like is how the fabric dries super fast. We got caught in a quick shower last time out, and I was surprised that the chair was basically dry within maybe 20 minutes after the rain stopped. And those wooden armrests? They’re a nice touch that makes it feel less “cheap plastic-y” than my previous chairs. They’re smoother than I expected too – no splinters or rough edges.
Setup is a breeze – just unfold and you’re good to go. Takes literally 5 seconds, which is way better than my old Coleman chair that had that confusing folding mechanism I could never quite figure out.
Only real downside is that the seat is a bit narrower than my old chair – about 20 inches wide. It’s comfortable enough for me, but if you’re someone who likes to really spread out, you might feel a little confined.
For the price point though? I’d say this chair is pretty solid value. I’ve definitely spent more on chairs that didn’t last half as long or feel half as comfortable. Two thumbs up from this beach bum!
