I honestly never thought I’d be shopping for a cat wheelchair, but when my Mittens started having trouble with his back legs, I knew I had to do something. After doing a ton of research (and maybe crying a little bit), I finally decided on this Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair in pink, and wow, what a game-changer it’s been for us!
This wheelchair is specifically made for small cats between 2-20 pounds with back leg issues. My chunky boy Mittens is about 15 pounds, and this model for cats between 11-20 pounds with a leg height of 7-8 inches fits him perfectly. The bright pink color is pretty cute too, though Mittens probably doesn’t care as much about that part as I do!
The whole thing is super lightweight – only about 3.5 pounds – which is great because I was worried it might be too heavy for him. The aluminum frame feels really sturdy but doesn’t weigh him down. The wheels are these dense foam things with rubber treads that are about 4 inches across, and they work pretty well on most surfaces. We’ve tried it on our carpet, hardwood floors, and even took a little adventure out in the yard. To be fair, he got stuck in some taller grass, but on normal surfaces he gets around surprisingly well!
One thing I really appreciate is how adjustable everything is. You can change the height (7-8 inches), length (10-14 inches), and width (4-6 inches) to get the perfect fit. It took me maybe 10 minutes to set it up the first time, and I’m not exactly a DIY expert! There aren’t any tools needed either, which is a huge plus for someone like me who can barely handle an IKEA bookshelf.
Storage-wise, it’s actually pretty convenient. The frame folds down easily, so I can tuck it away when Mittens is napping or just hanging out in his bed. We even took it with us when we visited my parents last month – it fit easily in the car alongside all our other stuff.
Cleaning it is honestly not bad at all. The whole thing can be washed with soap and water, including the padded harness, which is kind of important because, well, accidents happen when you’ve got mobility issues.
My vet actually recommended this brand, which made me feel better about the purchase. She said it’s good for cats with all kinds of rear leg problems – injuries, arthritis, or in Mittens’ case, some nerve issues that came with age. I’ve noticed he seems happier now that he can move around more independently. He’s even back to chasing his favorite feather toy, which hasn’t happened in months!
The specs say it works for cats up to 20 pounds with leg heights of 7-8 inches, and it seems to hold up great with daily use. The padded harness is comfortable enough that Mittens doesn’t try to wiggle out of it constantly (unlike when I try to put a sweater on him – total disaster).
It’s not cheap, but seeing my little buddy zooming around again instead of dragging himself is totally worth it. Kinda feels like I got my playful cat back!
