I’ve been trying out the SuperHandy GoRide Electric Wheelchair for a few weeks now, and honestly, I’m pretty impressed with what this little powerhouse can do.
The seat is way more comfortable than I expected – it’s about 18.5 inches wide and fits my dad (who’s around 210 lbs) with no problem at all. The weight capacity is 220 lbs, which is pretty decent. The foam cushioning is actually kinda nice for longer sits, and the fabric doesn’t get too hot or sticky. My dad loves that he can adjust the armrests and footrest to get comfy – makes a huge difference when you’re sitting for hours.
The folding feature? Total game-changer. It takes like 5 seconds to fold it down to this compact 28″ x 18″ x 30″ size. We took it on a weekend trip and I was worried about fitting it in my Civic’s trunk, but it slid right in with room to spare! It’s only about 62 pounds with the battery, which isn’t exactly light, but it’s manageable – definitely lighter than my aunt’s old clunker of a wheelchair. The carrying bag that comes with it is a nice touch too.
Power-wise, it’s pretty solid. The dual 250W motors get up to about 4 mph, which doesn’t sound fast, but trust me, it feels zippy enough when you’re using it. The braking is really responsive – we tested it on some mild hills (nothing crazy, maybe 6-7 degree inclines), and it handled them fine. Battery life has been pretty good so far – we usually get around 10-11 miles before needing to recharge, which is close to the 12 miles they advertise. The battery takes forever to charge though – like a full night, basically 7-8 hours.
The control is where this thing really shines. The joystick makes it super easy to navigate tight spaces – we took it to the mall last weekend and my dad was doing these smooth little spins between clothing racks like it was nothing. The turning radius is tight, maybe 31 inches? We switched the joystick to the left side since my dad prefers that, and it was no big deal to move it over.
Ride quality is surprisingly good. The front wheels are these smaller 7″ ones, but the rear 12″ pneumatic tires make a big difference. My dad took it across our lawn and even over some gravel in the park without any issues. Not as smooth as those $5,000 models my neighbor has, but for the price, it’s not bad at all. Ground clearance is about 3.5 inches, so you do have to be a bit careful with bigger bumps.
Some cool extras – there’s this digital display that shows battery life and speed, which is pretty handy. The headlights are bright enough for evening outings, and there’s even a USB charging port for phones, which my dad uses constantly.
We’ve been using it for all sorts of stuff – grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments, even took it to an outdoor concert last week. Fits perfectly in my car for trips, though we haven’t tried flying with it yet.
To be fair, it’s not perfect – the battery indicator seems a little wonky sometimes, and I wish the armrests had a bit more padding. But considering what we paid compared to some of the medical supply store options? This thing is an absolute steal.
