I finally found a camping chair that doesn’t make me regret bringing it! After trying literally five different chairs over the past few years, I bit the bullet and ordered this Suntime chair with the footrest, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my outdoor adventures.
So I’ve had this chair for about three months now and have taken it camping twice, to a beach day, and even just used it in my backyard for a little afternoon reading session. The thing that struck me first was how it’s actually pretty sturdy for something that folds up. It’s made with this alloy steel frame that feels way more solid than my previous chair that would wobble if you just looked at it wrong. The fabric is this polyester mesh combo that’s been holding up really well – and thank goodness for that mesh because my back doesn’t get all sweaty when I’m sitting out in the summer heat.
Weight-wise, it’s around 14 pounds, which isn’t exactly ultralight if you’re hiking far, but for car camping or beach trips, it’s totally manageable. I’m not gonna lie, the carry bag it comes with makes a huge difference. My old chair never went back in its bag after the first use!
The footrest is what sold me initially, and it’s kind of awesome to have the option. Some days I want to just kick back and relax with my feet up, and other times I need to sit properly when we’re gathered around the campfire eating. You just twist this little knob thing underneath and the footrest comes right off – super easy. And the reclining feature? Game changer. You can adjust it from sitting straight up at like 90 degrees to leaning back at about 130 degrees when you’re ready to chill and watch the stars.
One thing I wasn’t expecting to love as much as I do is all the little storage features. There’s this cup holder that’s actually deep enough to hold my travel mug without it tipping over (miracle!), plus a side pocket where I keep my phone and sometimes my Kindle. My old chair had pockets too, but they were flimsy and my stuff was always falling out – not with this one.
The chair’s pretty comfy for extended sitting too. I spent about 4 hours in it during my niece’s soccer tournament last weekend, and my back didn’t hurt at all. It supports up to 250 pounds, which is plenty for me, and I’m pretty sure it would hold my brother-in-law who’s a bigger guy.
Setup is super quick – just pull it out of the bag and unfold. No tools, no confusing parts, nothing to assemble. Takes like 10 seconds, tops. Perfect when you just want to get to the relaxing part of camping without the hassle.
It’s been through a light rain once (I forgot to put it away – oops) and seemed to dry pretty quickly without any issues. The polyester doesn’t seem to fade either, which is nice because my last chair got all discolored after just one summer.
If you’re on the fence about spending a bit more for a camping chair, I’d say this one’s worth it. The footrest and reclining options alone make it so much more versatile than a basic chair. It’s been great for camping, but honestly, I’ve been bringing it to all kinds of outdoor events because it’s just that comfortable.
