So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from my ancient office chair to the Staples Vartan Gaming Chair in Black and Blue, and honestly? I’m kicking myself for not doing this sooner.
I’ve been gaming pretty heavily these past few months (thanks, new MMO addiction), and my old chair was basically torture after hour three. This Vartan chair though? It’s actually made for people who sit for long periods. The bonded leather feels way nicer than I expected for the price point – kind of premium without being ridiculous. It’s also super easy to wipe down when I inevitably spill my energy drink during intense boss fights.
The chair is pretty solid too – definitely not one of those wobbly disasters that feels like it might collapse under you. The metal frame isn’t messing around and supports up to 275 pounds, which gives me plenty of confidence even during my more, uh, animated gaming moments.
The recline feature is probably my favorite thing about it. You can go back to like 135 degrees when you’re taking a break, which is perfect for those moments when you need to process a tough defeat. Or you can lock it upright when it’s time to focus and actually try to win for once. I’m about 5’10”, and the height adjustment works great for me – goes from 49.9″ to 53.8″, so it should work for most people.
The armrests are adjustable too, which is a game-changer for me since my last chair had these fixed positions that never quite felt right. Oh, and it comes with these detachable pillows for your head and lower back. I wasn’t sure about them at first, but the lumbar support actually helps a ton with my back pain that used to flare up after gaming marathons.
Size-wise, it’s not taking up my entire room or anything. The seat itself is pretty generous – 21.7″ wide by 20.5″ deep – definitely roomier than my old chair. And while it’s not exactly lightweight at 45 pounds, it’s still easy enough to move around on those dual-wheel casters. They roll super smooth on my hardwood floor and don’t leave marks, which my landlord would definitely appreciate.
The black and blue color scheme looks way better in person than in the pictures. It matches my setup perfectly and doesn’t have that overly “gamer” aesthetic that some chairs do – you know, the ones that look like they belong in a race car rather than someone’s home.
Assembly wasn’t bad at all – took me maybe 25 minutes, and I’m definitely not what you’d call handy. Everything came well-packaged, and the instructions were actually useful for once.
To be fair, it’s not the absolute top-tier gaming chair on the market, but it’s pretty good for the price range. My buddy has one of those $500+ chairs, and honestly? This feels about 90% as comfortable for a lot less money.
