So I just upgraded my home office with this Staples Rutherford chair, and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for my back. I work from home about 50 hours a week, and my old chair was killing me by lunchtime.
The black faux leather (they call it “Luxura”) looks pretty good—definitely nicer than I expected for the price. It’s got this high-back design that actually supports my shoulders, which I didn’t realize was missing from my old setup until now. The chair’s pretty substantial at 35.5 pounds, but that kind of makes it feel more premium, you know?
Size-wise, it’s about 27.4 inches wide by 29.8 inches deep, and you can adjust the height from around 44.8 to 48.6 inches, which is perfect because my desk is slightly taller than average. The seat itself is comfy enough—19.1 inches wide by 17.4 inches deep—so I don’t feel cramped during long Zoom meetings.
One thing that’s been super helpful is all the adjustment options. You can fiddle with the tilt tension (I like mine kind of loose), lock it upright when you need to focus, or recline a bit when you’re thinking. The pneumatic height adjustment works way smoother than my last chair, which would sometimes drop unexpectedly—scared the life out of me a couple times!
The armrests are padded, which is nice, but to be fair, I wish they were adjustable too. That’s probably my only real complaint. The casters roll pretty well on my office carpet—definitely better than those cheap plastic wheels that seem to get stuck on everything.
I was kind of dreading the assembly, but it wasn’t bad at all. Everything came with the chair, and it took me maybe 30 minutes while half-watching Netflix. It’s rated for up to 275 pounds, so it feels really stable.
After three weeks of daily use, I’m noticing way less back pain by the end of the day. It’s like night and day compared to the dining chair I was using before (don’t judge me!). For anyone spending serious time at a desk, investing in something like this is totally worth it.
