So I finally upgraded my kitchen island seating with these Soohow bar stools, and honestly, I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing it sooner! The blue PU leather ones caught my eye while I was browsing for something to replace my wobbly old stools, and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.
First off, the height adjustment is actually super useful. I can move them from about 23.6″ up to almost 32″ with this pneumatic lift thing they have. Way better than my last set that was stuck at one height and always felt a bit too short for my counter. My teenage son (who’s basically a giant now) appreciates being able to adjust them too.
The swivel feature? Total game-changer! I didn’t realize how annoying it was to constantly scoot my old stools around until I got these. Now I can just spin to grab something from the counter behind me without that awful scraping noise on my floors.
The backrest is definitely a nice touch – my lower back isn’t what it used to be, and I can actually sit at the island for more than 20 minutes now without feeling like I need to stretch. They’re more comfortable than my dining chairs, to be fair.
These stools are pretty sturdy too. The stainless steel frame doesn’t wobble or anything when you sit down, and the base is wide enough (like 17.3″ across) that they feel really stable. There’s this plastic ring thing on the bottom that keeps them from scratching up my hardwood floors, which was a concern of mine. Each one supposedly holds up to 350 pounds, which seems like a lot, but my brother-in-law (big guy) sat on one during our last family dinner and it didn’t budge.
The seats are decently sized – about 15″ across – and the foam padding is thick enough that I don’t get that numb-butt feeling even after sitting through my morning coffee and scrolling through news. The blue PU leather looks more expensive than it is and cleans up super easily (learned that after my 5-year-old’s grape juice incident).
Putting them together was surprisingly not terrible. Took me maybe 3-4 minutes per stool, and I’m definitely not handy. Everything came in the box, including the tools, which was a nice touch.
Style-wise, they’ve got that industrial-meets-modern vibe that works really well with my kitchen. The blue adds a nice pop of color without being too in-your-face. I was a bit nervous about how they’d match with my somewhat rustic kitchen, but they actually tie in pretty well with the rest of the space.
If you’re on the fence, I’d say these are worth it. They’re not your bargain basement stools, but they’re not ridiculously priced either for what you get. After dealing with uncomfortable seating for years, it’s nice to actually enjoy sitting at my counter while I work or eat!
