Set of 6 Windsor Farmhouse Wood Spindle Back Dining Chairs, Black
So I finally bit the bullet and replaced our old dining chairs that were literally falling apart. After weeks of searching, I went with these black Windsor spindle backs, and honestly? Best decision I’ve made for our dining room in years.
First off, these chairs are no joke when it comes to sturdiness. They’re made from solid ash wood—not that cheap particle board stuff that breaks after a year. Each chair can handle up to 250 pounds, which is pretty impressive. My husband’s a big guy and he feels totally secure sitting in them. No wobbling at all! I was worried they might feel flimsy, but they’re actually quite substantial at about 28 pounds each.
The comfort factor really surprised me. I kind of expected them to be those typical “look nice but hurt your back after 20 minutes” dining chairs, but they’re actually really comfortable for longer meals. Those seven spindles in the back aren’t just for looks—they actually support your spine pretty well. The seat is wider than our old chairs too (about 17.7″ by 16.3″), which makes a huge difference during family dinners. The height is just right at around 18 inches—fits perfectly with our standard dining table.
Style-wise, these chairs are honestly so versatile. We have this weird mix of modern and farmhouse going on in our dining area, and somehow these chairs tie everything together. The black matte finish looks way more expensive than what I paid, and the wood grain still shows through a bit which adds some nice character. I’m not usually into the whole spindle-back look (reminds me of my grandma’s house!), but these have a cleaner, more updated design that doesn’t feel dated at all.
One thing I really appreciate is those rubber pads on the bottom of each leg. Our floors are hardwood and they scratch if you look at them wrong, but these chairs slide without leaving a mark. Plus, they don’t make that awful scraping noise when the kids inevitably drag them across the floor.
Speaking of kids—assembly was easy enough that my teenager actually helped me put them together. Took about 10 minutes per chair, and the instructions weren’t those impossible-to-decipher hieroglyphics you usually get. Everything you need comes in the box, including the Allen wrench.
Maintaining them has been pretty low-key so far. I’ve had them for about 3 months, and just wiping them down with a slightly damp cloth keeps them looking new. We had a spaghetti sauce incident (thanks to my 7-year-old), but it wiped right off without staining.
The chairs came really well packaged too—not a scratch or dent in sight. And they threw in some extra hardware, which I always appreciate because I inevitably lose a screw or two.
For the price, getting six solid wood chairs that look this good and feel this sturdy was kind of a steal. They’re definitely not as cheap as those IKEA options I was considering, but I can tell these will be with us for years rather than months. To be fair, they’re a bit heavier than I expected when I need to move them around, but I guess that’s the trade-off for solid construction.
