So I just upgraded my dining area with these Safavieh Taika leather chairs, and honestly, I’m pretty impressed! I’ve been looking for something with that Scandinavian vibe for ages, and these totally hit the mark.
The natural wood frame is really lovely in person – kind of has this light finish that shows off all the wood grain. It’s actually warmer looking than it seemed in the photos. The cognac leather is what sold me though – it’s this rich brown that works with basically everything. I was worried it might be too orange-y (like some “cognac” leather can be), but it’s just right.
They’re about 19.7 inches wide, 23.6 deep, and 33.5 high, with the seat at 18.5 inches – which is perfect for my dining table height. My husband’s a big guy (around 230 pounds) and he feels totally secure in them. They’re solid at 20 pounds each, but I can still move them around when I’m vacuuming, which is nice.
The woven leather detail on the seat and back is probably my favorite part. It’s way more interesting than just plain upholstery, you know? It’s got this handcrafted feel that makes them look way more expensive than they were. To be fair, I did have to apply some leather conditioner right away – they seemed a bit dry out of the box.
I actually ended up putting one in my home office corner too, and it works there just as well as at the dining table. They’re definitely more comfortable than my old IKEA chairs – I sat through an entire dinner party last weekend and didn’t get that achy back I usually do!
Safavieh’s been around forever (like 100+ years), and I can see why. These feel built to last, unlike some of the cheaper options I was considering. The leather seems pretty tough too – my cat already tested it with her claws and thankfully, no visible damage!
