I just got my hands on this Quik Shade Max camp chair last weekend, and honestly, I’m kinda loving it so far! The main reason I bought it was for that adjustable canopy thing it has – turns out it really does offer UPF 50+ protection, which is pretty important since I burn like crazy. What I really appreciate is how you can move the shade around throughout the day. I was at my nephew’s soccer game and just kept adjusting it as the sun moved, which was super convenient.
The fabric feels pretty decent – it’s this polyester material that seems pretty sturdy. They call it 600 x 300 denier or something technical like that. All I know is it hasn’t ripped yet despite my not-so-gentle handling! I accidentally spilled some soda on it, and it wiped right off, so I guess that water-resistant claim is legit. The mesh seat is a nice touch too – keeps things from getting too sweaty on hot days, which has been a problem with my old chairs.
One thing that sold me was how portable it is. At 9 pounds, it’s not heavy at all – definitely lighter than my old Coleman chair. It comes with this carry bag with a shoulder strap, which made hauling it to the beach last weekend no big deal. When it’s all folded up, it’s pretty compact – fits easily in my trunk with all our other beach gear, which is always a plus.
The structure feels pretty solid too. It’s got this powder-coated steel frame that seems sturdy enough. I’m not exactly a small person (I’m about 220 lbs), and it holds me without any worrying creaks or wobbles. The backrest is actually more comfortable than I expected – it’s got this higher arch that supports my back better than my old camping chair. The seat is pretty wide too – about 22.5 inches – which gives me plenty of room to shift around when I’m sitting for hours.
I’m a sucker for cup holders, and this chair has two of them built into the armrests. Nothing fancy, but they do the job just fine. The whole thing sets up and breaks down in like 10 seconds flat – way easier than wrestling with my previous chair that always seemed to pinch my fingers somehow.
For the specs people: it’s about 35 inches tall, 22.5 inches wide, and 24 inches deep when it’s set up. The seat sits about 18 inches off the ground, which is a good height – not too low like some camping chairs that make you feel like you’re sitting on the ground. I was actually surprised to see it has a 500-pound weight capacity – that’s pretty impressive. I got the navy blue one, but I think they had green and gray options too.
To be fair, I’ve only had it for a couple weeks, but so far it’s been great for backyard hangouts and a beach day. Definitely comfier than my old REI chair! If you’re looking for something with good sun protection that doesn’t feel like you’re lugging around a piece of furniture, this might be worth checking out.
