So I finally got my hands on the OXO Tot Sprout High Chair in Pink and Black, and honestly? It’s been a game-changer for our mealtimes with little Sophia. We’ve been using it for about three months now, and I’m pretty impressed with how it grows with your kid – it’s designed to work from when they’re just 6 months all the way up to 5 years old, which is actually kind of amazing when you think about it.
The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to adjust everything without needing to dig through my toolbox (thank goodness!). You can set the seat at three different heights and depths depending on how big your little one is. The footrest is adjustable too, which I didn’t even realize was important until my pediatrician mentioned something about proper posture during meals. It’s not huge either – about 24″ long, 19″ wide, and 37″ tall – so it fits in our somewhat cramped dining area without being too obtrusive. And it can hold up to 60 pounds, which seems like forever away but I guess kids grow faster than we expect!
Safety-wise, I’m really happy with the 5-point harness. My daughter is a total wiggle worm at mealtimes, but this keeps her secure without being uncomfortable. Can we talk about the tray for a sec? It’s been a lifesaver! It’s got this recessed design that can actually hold more than 7 ounces of spilled liquid – I know this because, well, we’ve tested it accidentally more times than I’d like to admit! The tray stores pretty easily too, which is nice because our kitchen isn’t exactly spacious.
Clean-up is way easier than with our old high chair. The foam cushions wipe down super well – yesterday Sophia somehow got pureed carrots EVERYWHERE, but it took me like 2 minutes to clean up. The pink and black color scheme is actually prettier in person than in the photos – it matches our kitchen vibe surprisingly well and feels sturdier than those cheap plastic high chairs my sister uses.
To be fair, it’s not the cheapest high chair out there, but the fact that it converts to a youth chair once your kid is over 3 years old (you just adjust the seat down and take off some parts) makes it worth the investment in my opinion. We won’t have to buy another chair when she outgrows the high chair stage, which is pretty cool.
What I didn’t expect was how much I’d appreciate not needing tools for adjustments. My husband is always misplacing the Allen wrenches and screwdrivers, so being able to make changes on the fly is kind of a big deal in our household.
The chair is made of solid wood and BPA-free plastic, which makes me feel better about having Sophia sit in it for every meal. It came in what they call “Frustration-Free Packaging” which basically meant I could set it up without having a meltdown, lol.
I’m not saying it’s perfect – nothing with babies ever is! – but it’s definitely been one of our better baby gear purchases so far.
