I’ve Fallen in Love with This Oversized Double Camping Chair
Okay, so my partner and I have been through like three different camping chairs in the past couple years, and honestly, this oversized double camping chair has been a total game-changer for us. We picked it up before our trip to Lake Michigan last month, and I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting one sooner.
First off, this thing is HUGE – like 57.5 inches wide! We can both sit comfortably without that awkward elbow-bumping thing that happens with regular chairs. The seat is pretty deep too (about 23 inches) and stands about 38 inches high when it’s set up. The padding is seriously thick on the seat, back, and armrests – way cushier than those flimsy chairs we used to have. After a full day of hiking, it was actually nice to collapse into this rather than dreading sitting on those hard, uncomfortable chairs we used to bring.
The weight capacity is no joke either – it holds up to 650 pounds! My cousin who’s a pretty big guy tried it out at our family picnic and mentioned how nice it was to not worry about breaking something for once.
The material feels really durable – it’s this 600D Oxford fabric that’s held up great so far through a rainstorm and my clumsy self spilling hot chocolate all over it (oops!). The frame is made from carbon steel with these vertical front legs that actually make a huge difference on uneven ground. Our last chair would wobble like crazy on anything but perfectly flat surfaces, but this one stays put pretty well. The powder coating on the frame seems to be doing its job too – no signs of rust after getting caught in that surprise downpour.
One thing I didn’t expect to love so much? The cup holders! There are two oversized ones that fit our big Hydroflasks, but they also added these special stem glass holders. Not gonna lie, sipping wine from actual glasses while watching the sunset at our campsite felt pretty fancy! The back pockets are super handy too – I keep my Kindle and sunscreen in one, and my husband stuffs his phone and our campsite map in the other.
Setting it up is literally a 30-second job – unfold and you’re done. When packed up, it’s about 8.3 inches around and 39.8 inches tall. It’s not exactly lightweight at 22 pounds, but to be fair, that’s expected with something this sturdy. The carrying bag has a decent shoulder strap which makes lugging it from the car to the beach manageable.
The anti-slip feet are a nice touch – we’ve used this chair on grass, gravel, and even at the beach, and it doesn’t sink or slide around much. We’ve taken it camping obviously, but it’s also become our go-to for concerts in the park, our nephew’s soccer games, and even just hanging out in the backyard. I’m actually sitting in it right now on our patio as I write this!
Cleaning it is pretty straightforward – just wipe with a damp cloth. The seat height (18 inches) is comfortable for me at 5’6″ – my feet touch the ground perfectly without that awkward dangling feeling. We’ve used it in some pretty chilly weather (camping in early spring) and during a heatwave, and it’s held up fine in both extremes.
If you’re looking for a camping chair that actually feels like a proper piece of furniture rather than a fragile folding thing, this is definitely worth checking out. It’s become the unofficial gathering spot whenever we have friends over for a BBQ – everyone fights over who gets to sit in the “throne” as they’ve started calling it!
