I recently got my hands on the OUTREE Kids Blue Cotton Pod Swing Seat, and honestly, it’s been such a game-changer for my nephew’s room! When it arrived, I was pretty impressed by how lightweight it was—just 3 pounds—which made the setup way easier than I expected.
So this swing is basically a little cocoon-like hideaway that’s about 27.5 inches across and 59 inches tall. It’s big enough for one kid to curl up in comfortably. The material is this really soft cotton-canvas that feels kind of premium compared to my sister’s cheaper hammock chair. It’s breathable too, which is nice because my nephew can spend hours in there without getting all sweaty.
The blue color is pretty vibrant in person—actually matches his room better than I thought it would! What I didn’t expect was how much of a calming effect this thing would have. My nephew (who’s normally bouncing off the walls) actually sits in there to read or play on his tablet. He says it feels like his own little “secret base,” which is adorable.
Installation wasn’t bad at all. It comes with this adjustable nylon belt, some expansion bolts for concrete, and screws for wood. We hung it from a beam in his bedroom, though I’m thinking about getting another one to hang from the oak tree in our backyard for summer. The instructions were clear enough—I mean, I’m not exactly a DIY expert and I managed it in about 20 minutes.
My sister was worried about durability (her kid is, um, enthusiastic), but the edges have this reinforced nylon and double-stitched seams that seem pretty sturdy. The swing can supposedly hold up to 170 pounds, which is honestly impressive for something that looks so light. The PVC cushion at the bottom is comfortable but firm enough to support him properly.
To be fair, I was skeptical about the whole “sensory benefits” thing, but my friend’s daughter who has some sensory processing issues absolutely loves it when she comes over. The gentle swinging motion seems to really help her calm down.
Oh, and cleaning it is not bad at all—just wipe it down with a damp cloth. After my nephew spilled juice on it (because of course he did), it cleaned up pretty easily without staining.
Kind of wish they made adult-sized versions of these, not gonna lie. I’ve definitely squeezed into it once or twice when he wasn’t looking! It’s comfier than my reading chair.
