So I just got my hands on this G4Free Double Beach Chair Umbrella, and honestly, I’m pretty impressed with it! I’ve been through so many beach umbrellas over the years, and this one might be the keeper I’ve been looking for.
The umbrella is big enough to cover two people—like, actually cover them. It’s about 55 by 46 inches when opened up, which was plenty of shade for me and my husband on our beach trip last weekend. It’s super lightweight too, only 2.2 pounds! I was kinda shocked when I first picked it up. The carrying case it comes with has this shoulder strap that made lugging it to our spot way easier than our old bulky beach umbrella.
I’m pretty fair-skinned and burn like crazy, so the UPF 50+ protection is a game-changer for me. The fabric has this silver coating that supposedly blocks 99% of those nasty UV rays. All I know is I didn’t get burned, even after we spent like four hours at the beach, which is a miracle for me! It also felt cooler under there compared to our old umbrella—must be that heat-reflecting thing they mentioned.
The clamp is probably my favorite part. It’s way more versatile than I expected. We attached it to our beach chairs first, but I’ve also used it on our patio furniture at home and even clamped it to my dad’s wheelchair when we took him to my nephew’s soccer game. The grip is really solid—I was worried about it falling off in the breeze, but it stayed put the whole time.
Adjusting this thing is pretty straightforward. There’s this button hinge in the middle that lets you angle it however you want to block the sun. The shaft length is adjustable too, from about 37.5 to 43 inches. You just unscrew this bolt, pull it out to where you want it, and tighten it back up. To be fair, it was a tiny bit stiff the first couple of times, but it loosened up with use.
I was a bit concerned about how it would hold up in wind (our beach gets pretty breezy in the afternoons), but the fiberglass ribs seem really flexible yet sturdy. We had some decent gusts that day, and while other people’s umbrellas were flipping inside out, this one just kind of bent a little and bounced back. The kite shape probably helps with that too.
For the price, I think it’s a pretty good value. It definitely feels more durable than the cheap $15 umbrella we bought last year that broke after two uses. They offer a one-year warranty too, which gives me some peace of mind.
I went with the blue one, but it also comes in green and red. If I had one minor complaint, I wish they had a few more color options, but that’s not really a deal-breaker.
