OK so I’ve been looking for a high chair for our little one, and honestly, space has been a huge concern in our apartment. I finally bit the bullet and went with this Fisher-Price SpaceSaver in Pacific Pebble, and I’m pretty happy with how it’s working out for us!
First off, this thing is seriously half the size of those bulky traditional high chairs, which is exactly what we needed. It just straps onto one of our dining chairs and takes up way less room than I expected. We’ve got a tiny dining area, so this was kind of a lifesaver. It’s rated for kids up to 50 lbs, which means we’ll get plenty of use out of it as the baby grows.
The chair has these adjustable straps that attach to our dining chairs, and they feel pretty secure – no wobbling or anything when the baby’s in there. One thing I really like is that it has three different recline positions. Our little one isn’t quite sitting up on her own yet, so we’ve been using the reclined position for now. I’m guessing we’ll switch to the upright position in a few months when she’s stronger.
To be fair, the tray is one of my favorite features. It’s bigger than I expected and has this deep lip around the edge that catches a lot of the food my daughter inevitably drops. The fact that I can release it with one hand is super convenient – I’m usually holding the baby with the other arm! The tray liner pops right into the dishwasher, which is honestly such a time-saver. The whole tray is dishwasher-safe too, but I usually just wipe it down unless it’s really messy.
The seat pad is machine-washable, thank goodness. We’ve already had a few, um, “incidents” that required immediate washing, lol. It has a five-point harness for now, but you can switch it to a three-point when they’re a bit older, which is nice.
It’s made of this sturdy BPA-free plastic that feels like it’ll last, and the Pacific Pebble color is actually really nice – kind of a neutral grayish that matches our dining room better than I thought it would. It doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb the way some of those brightly colored baby things do.
We took it to my parents’ house last weekend, and it was pretty easy to transport – it’s only about 8 pounds and folds down to like 8 inches high. Not as portable as those fabric seat things, but definitely more supportive for younger babies.
All in all, I’d say it’s a pretty good buy if you’re tight on space or want something you can move around easily. It does everything a regular high chair does but doesn’t take over your whole dining area. Not bad at all for the price!
