So I finally got this Fisher-Price Smart Stages Chair in teal for my 15-month-old, and honestly, it’s been pretty awesome! It’s this cute little interactive chair that’s meant for toddlers from 1 year up (says it holds kids up to 55 pounds, which is kind of impressive for a toddler chair).
My little guy absolutely loves sitting in “his chair” – it’s so adorable! When he plops down or stands up, the chair actually senses the movement and starts playing music and lighting up. He gets so excited, like he’s discovered some kind of magic trick every single time. It’s been really cool watching him figure out the whole cause-and-effect thing.
The chair has these three different learning levels they call “Smart Stages” which, to be fair, is actually pretty clever. Right now we’re using Level 1 which is perfect for his age (it’s meant for 12+ months) with simple words and sounds. I’m looking forward to switching to Level 2 when he hits 18 months, and then eventually Level 3 when he’s around 2. It’s kind of nice knowing we’ll get some longevity out of it.
There’s this little flipbook attached that he loves to turn pages in (usually very aggressively lol), and a remote with buttons that light up. His favorite thing might be lifting the seat cushion though – there are these surprise textures underneath and he gets this look of total concentration when he’s exploring them.
The chair itself is pretty sturdy – definitely more solid than I expected for a plastic toy. It’s not too big either, about 16.5 inches tall by 15 inches wide, and I can easily move it around when I’m cleaning (it’s only about 5.5 pounds). The teal color is actually nicer in person than in the pictures, and it doesn’t look too out of place in our living room.
It came with batteries, which was a nice surprise, though they didn’t last super long – probably just demo batteries. I had to replace them after a couple weeks of heavy use. Cleaning is a breeze too, just a quick wipe down with a damp cloth, which is pretty essential with how messy toddlers can be!
For what it’s worth, my little guy is definitely learning stuff from it. I swear he knows more colors now, and he’s starting to recognize shapes too. Plus, it gives me a few minutes of peace while he’s entertained, which is honestly worth its weight in gold some days!
