So I finally caved and got this Fisher-Price booster seat in green for my 18-month-old, and honestly? It’s been a total game-changer at our house. We were struggling with our little guy reaching the table properly, and this thing solved that problem right away.
First off, attaching it to our dining chairs was way easier than I expected. The straps are pretty adjustable and actually stay secure – unlike that cheap one my sister has where her kid is practically sliding all over the place during dinner. Just a heads up though, it’s definitely not meant for car seats or those backless benches at our favorite brunch spot (learned that the hard way, oops!).
The tray is probably my favorite part. You can just pop it in the dishwasher! As someone who’s spent way too much time scrubbing dried spaghetti sauce off of baby gear, this feels like a luxury, I’m not even kidding. There’s this little cup holder built in which is kind of perfect for those sippy cups that otherwise end up on the floor every five minutes.
I was really impressed with how clean this thing stays. Our previous booster had these annoying little cracks where crumbs would just collect and get all gross, but this one is super smooth all around. And when my mother-in-law comes to visit, I can take the tray and back off to make it more like a big-kid seat, which my son thinks is pretty cool.
The height adjustment is actually useful – we started on the highest setting but dropped it down as our table situation changed. It’s made of this sturdy plastic that feels like it’ll last forever (or at least until he outgrows it). It’s not heavy either, maybe 4-5 pounds? My toddler’s about 28 pounds now and he fits in it comfortably with plenty of room to grow. The weight limit is 50 pounds, so we should be good for quite a while.
To be fair, the best surprise was how portable it is. It folds up pretty compact, and there’s this little strap so you can carry it around. We took it to my parents’ place last weekend, and it was so much better than trying to balance him on those old phone books they usually pull out (I mean, who even has phone books anymore?).
The bright green color is fun and doesn’t show stains as much as I thought it would. After two months of daily use, it still looks decent enough to not be an eyesore in our kitchen.
If you’re on the fence about booster seats, this one’s honestly not bad at all. It’s been way more practical than that fancy wooden high chair we got as a shower gift that just collects dust in the corner now.
