I’ve been honestly obsessed with finding the perfect outdoor chair for my deck renovation project, and I think I finally struck gold with this Faux Wood Adirondack Chair from Lifetime Products. I mean, who doesn’t love that classic Adirondack look, right? But I’ve always been put off by all the maintenance real wood requires – been there, done that with my parents’ old set that basically disintegrated after a few Minnesota winters.
So this chair has been kind of a game-changer for me. It’s made from this recycled polystyrene stuff that looks surprisingly like real wood (way better than I expected, to be fair). The best part? I haven’t had to do any of that annoying maintenance like painting or sealing that I had to help my dad with every spring. This thing just sits out there through rain, snow, whatever, and still looks pretty good!
It’s not exactly lightweight at 37 pounds – I definitely felt it lugging it from my garage to the backyard – but that heft actually keeps it from blowing over when those crazy summer storms roll through. The seat is about 14 inches off the ground, which is pretty much perfect for me (I’m 5’8″), though my taller friends might find it a bit low.
Comfort-wise, it’s definitely an improvement over my old patio chairs. The slanted back and wider armrests make such a difference when I’m sitting out there with my morning coffee or evening wine (a little too often lately, but who’s counting?). I was honestly surprised how comfortable it is for longer sits – I binge-watched almost an entire season on my iPad out there last weekend and didn’t get that weird back pain I usually do.
One thing I was worried about was the weight capacity since my brother-in-law is a pretty big guy, but it handles up to 300 pounds without any issues. We had a cookout last month and everyone was fighting over who got to sit in the “good chairs.”
Assembly wasn’t bad at all. It took me maybe 45 minutes with a glass of wine by my side. The instructions were actually readable, unlike that nightmare bookshelf I tried to put together from that Swedish store we all love to hate.
The chair comes in different wood tones – I went with the brown one because it matches my deck railing. I’ve noticed it gets a bit hot in direct sunlight on those 90-degree days, but not any worse than my old metal chairs that could literally burn your legs.
Cleaning has been super easy too. My nephew spilled cherry popsicle all over it last week, and I just hosed it down with some soap and water. Good as new, no stains!
For the price point, I think it’s a pretty solid investment. I’ve had mine for about 6 months now, and it still looks brand new despite sitting through a rainy spring. The 2-year warranty is nice peace of mind too, though I haven’t had to use it.
If you’re on the fence about getting fake wood versus real wood Adirondacks, I’d definitely recommend these. They’re eco-friendly (made from recycled materials), super low maintenance, and honestly, my neighbors couldn’t even tell they weren’t real wood until I told them. I’m actually thinking about getting a couple more to complete my outdoor setup!
