I finally solved our seating problem with these Cosco folding chairs, and honestly, I’m kinda impressed. I’ve been putting off buying extra seating for ages because, let’s face it, folding chairs are usually pretty awful looking and uncomfortable. But we had a family gathering coming up and I needed something fast.
These gray padded chairs are actually not bad at all! They’ve got this thick vinyl padding on both the seat and backrest that’s way more comfortable than those hard plastic chairs my parents used to pull out for Thanksgiving. The gray color is pretty neutral too – works fine with our somewhat mismatched dining area (we’re slowly renovating, but you know how that goes).
What I really love is how easy they are to store. They fold up super flat – only about 3.3 inches wide when collapsed. My apartment doesn’t have tons of storage space, so I can just slide them into that weird gap between the fridge and wall where nothing else fits. Each chair only weighs like 8.8 pounds too, so I’m not killing my back moving them around.
The seat size is decent – about 15.8 inches square, which feels roomier than I expected for folding chairs. They’re actually comfortable enough that my brother-in-law (who’s pretty picky about seating) sat through our entire 3-hour board game night without complaining! The seat height is around 17.5 inches, which works well with our dining table.
To be fair, I was a bit worried about sturdiness since some folding chairs feel like they might collapse if you look at them wrong. These have this double-braced design though – there’s extra support on both the front and back legs. They’re rated for 250 pounds, and my cousin who’s a pretty big guy used them without any issues. The metal frame has this powder coating that seems decent quality, definitely better than the rusty old folding chairs my parents still have in their garage from the 90s.
One thing I definitely appreciate is that they have these caps on the feet that don’t scratch up my floors. We just put in new laminate last year, and I’m pretty paranoid about ruining it. I dragged one across the kitchen and didn’t see any marks, which was a relief.
We’ve used them for a couple of dinner parties now, and I’ve even been using one at my makeshift WFH setup when I need a change from my regular office chair. It’s not as ergonomic as my proper desk chair, but it’s perfectly fine for a few hours.
For the price, these are a pretty good deal – especially since you get four in the pack. They’re definitely comfier than the basic metal folding chairs at my friend’s place, and they look a bit more presentable too. Not exactly luxury furniture, but they don’t scream “emergency seating” either.
The only slight downside is that they’re not really outdoor chairs, though we did use them for a BBQ once. I just made sure to bring them back inside afterward since I figure the vinyl and metal probably wouldn’t hold up great with constant weather exposure.
Overall, these Cosco chairs are a solid purchase if you need extra seating that doesn’t take up a ton of space. They’ve already survived two family gatherings and a game night without any issues, so I’m pretty happy with them so far!
