I finally bit the bullet and got myself a CordaRoy’s bean bag chair, and honestly? It’s kind of amazing. I’ve been eyeing these convertible bean bags for ages after seeing them at my friend’s place, and I finally decided to treat myself to the full-size charcoal chenille one.
First impressions – this thing is pretty hefty (around 33 pounds) but not so heavy that I couldn’t drag it upstairs to my apartment by myself. The charcoal color is exactly what I wanted – dark enough to hide any potential stains (let’s be real), but not so black that it looks like a void in my living room.
The chenille fabric feels way nicer than I expected. It’s got this velvety, dimpled texture that’s super soft to touch – definitely not like those crinkly plastic bean bags from the 90s. My cat immediately claimed it as her new favorite spot, which I wasn’t thrilled about, but at least the cover is machine-washable. That’s honestly a game-changer for me.
I was a bit skeptical about the whole “converts to a bed” thing. Like, how comfortable could a bean bag really be as a bed? Well, I had my sister stay over last weekend, and to be fair, she said it was actually pretty comfortable! When you unzip it and pull out the foam insert, it transforms into this full-size bed that’s about 75 inches long by 54 inches wide and around 8 inches thick. Not bad at all for something that normally sits in the corner of my living room!
The foam inside is apparently CertiPUR-US certified, which I guess means it’s not full of nasty chemicals. It’s definitely comfier than my old futon that I finally got rid of. The foam kind of molds to your body whether you’re sitting or lying on it. I’ve fallen asleep on it twice now while binge-watching shows, which wasn’t exactly the plan, but I guess that speaks to how comfy it is!
One thing I didn’t expect – you can actually adjust how firm it feels by moving the foam around inside. When it first arrived, it was super stuffed and pretty firm, but after a couple weeks of use, it’s softened up a bit into what I’d call the perfect squishiness.
Size-wise, it’s about 42 inches across when in chair mode, which is bigger than I initially pictured, so maybe measure your space if you’re tight on room. It fits perfectly in the corner of my living room though, and it’s become my go-to spot for reading or gaming.
The only downside I’ve found is that it’s a bit of a workout to convert it back and forth between chair and bed. Not impossible by any means, just takes some effort to stuff all that foam back in properly.
For anyone wondering about durability, I can’t speak to long-term use yet, but the stitching looks really solid, and apparently it comes with a lifetime guarantee, which is pretty reassuring.
All in all, it’s been a great addition to my apartment. It’s perfect for when friends come over (everyone fights over who gets to sit in it), and it’s saved me from having to buy a separate guest bed or futon. Not the cheapest bean bag out there, but considering it pulls double-duty, I think it’s worth every penny.
