So I finally broke down and got this SitnStand lift chair for my mom, and honestly, I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing it sooner! Setting it up was a total breeze – no tools, no complicated assembly, nothing. You just take it out of the box, and you’re pretty much good to go. The controls are super straightforward too – just up and down buttons that my mom figured out in like 2 minutes.
What I really love is how portable this thing is. It’s only about 8 pounds, which means I can easily move it between her favorite chair in the living room and the dining room when we have family dinners. We even took it to my sister’s house last weekend! It fits on practically any chair or sofa (except those office chairs that spin or anything with wheels). When it’s deflated, it’s only about 2 inches thick and around 20×20 inches, so it doesn’t make the chair look weird or medical-ish.
The coolest part, to be fair, is that when it’s completely deflated, you honestly can’t even tell it’s there. My mom says it feels just like sitting in her regular chair, which is way better than this clunky lift seat my neighbor has. The ergonomics are actually pretty good – she says it doesn’t mess with her favorite chair’s comfort at all.
This thing is surprisingly heavy-duty too. It can handle up to 400 pounds, which is more than some other lift chairs I looked at. The inflation system has 4 different chambers that fill up to different heights, so it works well for both my 5’2″ mom and my 6’1″ dad when he tried it. And it’s not loud at all! I was worried it would make this annoying mechanical noise, but you can barely hear it working.
It comes with the main seat unit, a battery, and a charger. No carrying bag, though, which would’ve been nice for trips, but I just use an old tote bag. The cover comes off for washing, which is a huge plus since, well, accidents happen sometimes with older folks.
Oh! And I didn’t expect this, but it’s FSA/HSA eligible! We used some of mom’s health savings money to pay for it, which made the price tag a lot easier to swallow.
My mom has pretty bad arthritis in her hips, and this has been a game-changer for her independence. She doesn’t need me to help her get up from her favorite chair anymore, which has given her back a bit of dignity. If you’ve got a parent struggling with mobility, I’d definitely say this is worth checking out.
