I finally found the perfect solution for my on-the-go parenting struggles! So, I picked up this Bright Starts Pop ‘N Sit Portable Booster Chair in green/grey about a month ago, and honestly? It’s been a total game-changer for us.
I was looking for something I could easily take to the park or my mom’s house when my little one (he’s 14 months now) needs a safe spot to sit, and this has been pretty great. It used to be called the Summer Infant Pop ‘N Sit, apparently – they just rebranded it to Bright Starts but kept everything that makes it work so well. Can’t argue with over 2 million people buying these things!
What I really love is how versatile it is. We’ve used it in all three ways – as a floor seat when we’re hanging out in the backyard (keeps him from eating grass, lol), as a feeding seat with the tray when we’re having lunch at the park, and as a booster attached to our dining chairs at home. It’s actually way more stable on our dining chairs than this cheap plastic booster we had before.
The whole thing only weighs like 4.6 pounds, which is nothing compared to our bulky high chair. It folds down super small too – about 15 x 13.5 x 14.75 inches, maybe even smaller if you really squish it. The carrying bag is decent quality and has a shoulder strap, which is handy when I’m already carrying a diaper bag and trying to hold my toddler’s hand in the parking lot!
There’s this little pocket on the back that I didn’t think I’d use, but it’s perfect for storing a few wipes and a spare diaper. Not huge, but definitely helpful when you’re setting up quickly at a picnic table and don’t want to dig through your main bag.
Safety-wise, it seems pretty solid. The 3-point harness keeps my wiggle worm secure, though I kind of wish it had a 5-point for my extra squirmy guy. The straps that attach to adult chairs feel sturdy enough – definitely better than our previous booster. The green and grey color is nice too – gender neutral and doesn’t show stains as much as our friend’s white one.
Clean-up hasn’t been too bad either. The tray goes in the dishwasher (thank goodness), and I’ve just been wiping down the fabric with a damp cloth. It dried pretty quickly the time my son spilled apple juice all over it.
If you’re wondering about size, my son is about 25 pounds and has plenty of room to grow. The box says it works up to 37 pounds or around 3 years, which seems about right looking at how much space he has.
The no-tools setup is a nice touch – took me like 30 seconds to figure out how to unfold it the first time. Just don’t try to do it while also watching a toddler and talking on the phone like I did, haha!
For anyone with a baby from about 6 months to 3 years who’s always on the move, this chair is totally worth checking out. It’s been SO much better than lugging around our massive high chair or those restaurant high chairs that never seem clean enough. Not perfect, but pretty darn close for what we needed!
