I honestly never thought I’d be this excited about a camping chair, but my Black Sierra heated chair has been a total game-changer for my outdoor adventures. I picked it up last fall before a big camping trip, and I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty much ruined regular chairs for me!
So this thing is built for serious outdoor use. I’ve had it out in some not-so-great weather – light rain, super windy conditions, you name it – and it’s held up really well. The materials feel high-quality and durable, which was honestly a bit surprising given how lightweight it is. I’ve used it camping, at my kid’s soccer games, and even just chilling on my back patio during those chilly spring evenings.
The heating system is where this chair really shines though. There are three heat settings (130°F on high, 115°F on medium, and 100°F on low), and let me tell you – that high setting is no joke! It gets toasty fast. The battery pack it comes with is this 10,000 mAh power bank that’s actually pretty versatile. I’ve gotten about 2.5 hours on high, though I usually keep it on medium which lasts around 4 hours. The best part? I can detach the power bank and charge my phone when needed – kind of a lifesaver when you’re out in the middle of nowhere.
Comfort-wise, this chair is honestly better than my couch in some ways (don’t tell my wife I said that!). The fleece material on the seat and back feels really nice, even through clothes, and it’s not that scratchy polyester you find on cheaper chairs. It’s got good padding too, which makes a huge difference when you’re sitting for hours. The cup holder is pretty standard, but that insulated side pocket? Perfect for keeping my phone and keys handy. And being an XL chair with a 22″ wide seat means I can actually get comfortable – I’m not exactly small, so that extra space is a game-changer.
As for sturdiness, I was a bit skeptical at first since it only weighs about 9.2 pounds, but this thing is rock solid. The steel frame has easily supported my 250-ish pounds without any wobbling or creaking. I’ve set it up on some pretty uneven ground while fishing, and it remained stable the whole time. When open, it’s a good size (38″ H x 36″ L x 28.75″ D), but it folds down super compact to about the size of a baseball bat, which makes it easy to toss in the trunk.
The portability factor is what sealed the deal for me. It’s lightweight enough that I don’t mind carrying it from the parking lot to the soccer field, and the carry bag it comes with has a decent shoulder strap. The folding mechanism is pretty straightforward too – no pinched fingers or complicated maneuvers required.
To be fair, it’s not perfect – nothing ever is, right? The battery doesn’t last quite as long in really cold weather (below freezing), which is kind of when you need it most. And while 9.2 pounds isn’t heavy per se, after a long hike to a campsite, you definitely feel it.
But overall? This chair has been worth every penny. From freezing football games to chilly camping nights to just hanging out in my backyard when it’s a bit too cold for comfort, this heated chair has been my trusty companion. If you’re on the fence about getting one, I’d say go for it – your backside will thank you!
