I finally found the perfect bar stools for our kitchen island, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with these vintage leather ones in whisky brown! When they arrived, I was kind of nervous about the quality since I’ve been burned by online purchases before, but wow – these definitely exceeded my expectations.
The Crazy-Horse leather is what initially caught my eye, and it’s even better in person. Each stool has these unique patterns that make them look way more expensive than they actually were. What’s pretty great is that they have some kind of sun-resistant coating, which is perfect for our kitchen that gets a ton of natural light. The whisky brown color matches our rustic kitchen vibe perfectly, though I think they’d work with pretty much any style. Oh, and cleaning them is super easy – I accidentally spilled some olive oil while cooking last week, and it wiped right off!
To be fair, comfort was my biggest concern since I tend to hang out at our kitchen island for hours (working from home problems, right?). These stools have this 115° backrest angle that actually supports my back way better than my old dining chairs. The seat has this waterfall edge design that doesn’t dig into my thighs like our previous stools did. I didn’t expect that to make such a difference, but it totally does, especially during those long Zoom calls!
The cushions are pretty thick – about 2.5 inches of memory foam that’s firm but not too hard. My husband (who’s much taller than me) loves that they adjust from about 24.6 to 32.9 inches high. We’ve got a standard 36-inch counter, and finding the perfect height for both of us used to be such a pain. The footrest is positioned just right, which is something I never thought about before but definitely notice now.
One thing that surprised me was how stable they are. Our old stools would wobble a bit, which was annoying, but these have this wide 16.5-inch base that keeps them super steady. There’s a rubber ring on the bottom that protects our hardwood floors too – a small detail but one I really appreciate.
Assembly was a breeze compared to the IKEA nightmare we went through with our previous furniture. It seriously took like 5 minutes per stool – just four screws and you’re done. My 10-year-old could have put these together!
I was a little concerned about the safety aspects since my sister’s kids visit often and they’re pretty wild. These are supposedly certified by some organization called Amfori (Class-A) and passed a bunch of tests for harmful substances. They definitely feel sturdy – they can hold up to 330 pounds according to the specs, which is plenty for anyone in our family.
The swivel function is kind of addictive – my kids spin on them whenever they sit down (driving me slightly crazy), but at least they’re built to handle it. The leather has held up really well so far against all the daily abuse, though we’ve only had them for about a month.
For anyone considering these, they come in a set of two, which was perfect for our space. They’re not the cheapest option out there, but considering how much time we spend at our kitchen island, they’ve been totally worth it. They’re definitely comfier than the wooden stools at our favorite local coffee shop!
