So I got this 12″x18″ Accessible Entrance sign for our office building recently, and honestly, it’s been pretty good! I was worried about finding something that looked professional but would also hold up outside our main entrance where it rains like crazy most of the year.
The sign is made from this .080-inch aluminum that feels really solid—definitely not one of those flimsy plastic ones that crack after a few months. It’s got this reflective coating on it that actually works pretty well. We had a late meeting last week, and I noticed you can actually see it clearly even when it’s getting dark, which is kind of important since that’s the whole point, right?
What I didn’t expect was how easy it was to put up. It comes with these pre-drilled holes, so my maintenance guy just grabbed a couple screws (you’ll need to get those separately, by the way) and had it mounted in like 5 minutes. At 12 pounds, it’s not too heavy but feels substantial enough that it’s not going anywhere in our crazy winter winds.
The lettering is super clear—”Accessible Entrance” in that bold font that’s easy to read from a distance. To be fair, I was a bit concerned about whether it would fade since our last sign looked terrible after about a year, but this one’s supposed to last up to 7 years outdoors according to the specs. We’ll see!
It’s definitely comfier knowing we’re compliant with all those ADA regulations. I had a meeting with our accessibility consultant last month, and she was actually impressed with the quality compared to the ones at the shopping center down the street.
For the size (12″x18″), it’s pretty perfect for our entrance—visible without being obnoxiously large. If you’ve got a bigger facility, you might want something larger, but for our modest office building, this hits the sweet spot.
