I finally found my dream chair! So I’ve been hunting for something fun but comfy for my apartment’s reading nook, and honestly, this Pink Penguin Rocking Sofa Chair is pretty much everything I was looking for.
First impressions – the pink color is gorgeous in person, not too bright or childish, but definitely a statement piece. When I first got it, I was kind of worried it might look too “nursery-ish” but it actually has this cool, grown-up vibe that works in my living room.
The comfort level is seriously impressive. The backrest has this curved design that actually supports your spine – I can feel the difference compared to my old IKEA chair that used to kill my back after an hour. The seat is really wide (about 24 inches) and deep (around 20 inches), so I can curl up with a book without feeling cramped. And the cushion? It’s this plush 4-inch thick foam wrapped in this super soft milk velvet fabric that feels almost like suede but smoother. To be fair, I was a bit skeptical about the “milk velvet” thing (what even is that?), but it’s honestly so nice to touch.
Setting it up wasn’t bad at all. It took me maybe 20 minutes, and I’m definitely not handy. The frame feels really solid – it’s got this metal base with wooden rockers that look like birch. I’m about 165 pounds and this thing doesn’t creak or wobble at all when I’m rocking. Apparently it can hold up to 300 pounds, which is pretty impressive.
One thing I didn’t expect that I absolutely LOVE is the removable cushions. You can just unzip them and throw them in the washing machine! I spilled coffee on it last week (classic me) and was having a mini panic attack until I remembered this feature. They came out of the wash looking good as new.
The rocking motion is nice and gentle – not like those aggressive rocking chairs at my grandma’s that feel like they might flip over. This one has some kind of anti-tip design with a 15-degree swing angle that’s just right for relaxing without feeling like you’re on a carnival ride.
I’ve actually been moving it between my living room and balcony depending on the weather. At 29 pounds, it’s not super lightweight, but I can manage to carry it myself. It’s held up pretty well to a couple of spring showers too – the fabric doesn’t seem to be fading or anything.
Size-wise, it’s compact enough (32″L x 25″W x 34″H) that it doesn’t overwhelm my small apartment, but it still feels substantial. The backrest comes up high enough (about 18 inches) to rest your head if you want to.
If I had to nitpick, I guess I wish it came in more colors? Though the pink is growing on me more every day. It’s definitely pricier than some basic chairs, but considering how much time I spend in it, totally worth the investment.
